Because of Covid-19 in many are looking for a way to escape their daily life. For this reason many use boats to avoid gatherings and risking infection.
With the virus spreading, however, the regulations to be respected on board and in port also change.
To facilitate their clients, many in the nautical industry use alternative methods to make buying or renting a boat as safe as possible.
In Italy during phase 1 of this epidemic the nautical industry has also been subjected to many restrictions in order to contain the infections and to avoid the spreading of the virus. During the lockdown, between May and March 2020, many sea lovers were also prevented from setting sail.
With the lockdown ending and the phase 2 beginning was finally allowed to sail again. With some limitations though.
Regulations to be respected on board
The crew on units for commercial or rental use must indeed undergo periodic swab tests and they must record their temperature every day.
As for leisure crafts, instead, even on board, as written on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, on them you must:
- respect the social distancing of at least one meter between non-cohabitants,
- wear individual protective equipment during mooring, unmooring, bunkering and assistance in port,
- decrease the maximum number of people allowed on board (number established based on the possibility of guaranteeing social distancing measures).

Despite all the restrictions imposed, this year the Italian nautical industry has not suffered losses: on the contrary, it continues with a positive balance. Genoa Boat Show
The 60th edition of the Genoa Boat Show, which hosted over 800 exhibitors (Seven Seas included) from October 1st to October 6th, was the most recent confirmation of this positivity..
This event is the only one in its field that has not been suspended throughout Europe and more than 70,000 people participated in it despite the health emergency and bad weather. This shows that at the time of Covid-19, even after the lockdown, more and more people to get away from the gatherings decide to sail: there, was sold any type of boat for any type of budget.
Alternative methods
All other events were suspended due to the rapid spread of the virus. In order not to make feel the distance too much, many have decided to use alternative means to reach customers.
